Tourist destinations in the State would be in strengthening safety around popular destinations, said Tourism Minister PA Mohamed Riyas. The Minister answered the question in the assembly on Wednesday and said that tourist destinations such as Kovallam, Veli and Kanakakunn Palace and the premises in the main district were already under the supervision of CCTV. After consultation with police authorities and other departments to install security cameras in other destinations in the state, the tourism department is consulted, the minister said.
Police stations in and around tourist destinations were given instructions through the police department to ensure special observations in tourist destinations. In addition, specially trained tourism police staff were deployed in large tourist destinations. In 14 districts, 180 tourism police workers have already been deployed and there is a plan to increase the number of police workers in tourism in each district, the Minister said.
In addition, 182 lifeguards were available at places with beaches, standing waters, rivers, lakes and other water formations. The department now provides them with further training and necessary equipment to save their lives. Issuing security warnings and implementing other measures in the area of life safety in destinations are examined. In addition, there are steps to raise awareness between tourists on security measures, including installing safety warning plates to avoid accidents in large destinations, the Minister said.
