
Several parts of Texas and Oklahoma were placed under a National Weather Service (NWS) tornado warning Monday local time.
Areas likely to be affected include Paris, Wichita Falls, Dallas (Fort Worth area), Denton, Mount Pleasant and Sherman, Texas. Tornado warnings were also issued for Northeastern Creek County and Tulsa County in western and central Oklahoma.
Tornado Warning for Texas
The NWS has placed North Texas under a tornado warning until 10:00 PM CT, saying a “couple” of strong tornadoes are likely. Those tornadoes will be accompanied by scattered tennis ball-sized hail and wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour, according to the agency.
The NWS office in Fort Worth said the area would be significantly impacted, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
The local meteorological office has issued a warning for the following counties:
Tornado in Oklahoma, 2 killed
Northeast Creek County reported a confirmed tornado Friday evening, according to media reports citing NWS data. The Tulsa area reported a tornado around 5:45 PM CST about six miles northwest of Kellyville and moving northeast at about 30 mph.
A mother and her daughter were killed after their vehicle was hit by what authorities believe was a tornado during severe weather in Major County, according to a News 9 report citing the sheriff.
Investigators said the women were on the phone with a family member before losing contact. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol used a phone signal to locate the vehicle.
Another tornado warning remains in effect until at least 8:15 p.m. CST for northeastern Creek County and west-central Tulsa County, NSW said.
Communities most likely to be affected include Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Mannford, Tulsa and Keystone State Park. The storm also poses a risk along Interstate 44, especially between mileposts 202 and 218.
The Oklahoma administration warned that flying debris could pose a serious threat to anyone caught outside and urged residents of nearby Bristow, Kellyville and Bixby to remain vigilant.
Officials said the tornado could damage or destroy mobile homes, while warning of significant damage to roofs, windows, vehicles and trees.
Michigan sees significant tornado damage
An area of Michigan reported early tornado damage on Friday with at least two confirmed twister landfalls. The first tornado was reported in Three Rivers, Tulare County and Union City, Calhoun County. In particular, the tornado left significant damage in Union.
According to storm chasers, Union City reported several deaths when a tornado tore through a residential area near Union Lake. Authorities have not yet confirmed the dead.
