Top ministry officials asked to attend India AI summit to identify ‘applications for ministry use’: Report | Today’s news

The Cabinet Secretariat has reportedly directed all officers at the level of Deputy Secretary and above across ministries and departments to attend the India AI Impact Summit 2026, which began in New Delhi at the Bharat Mandapam on Monday, February 16.

In an exclusive report published on Tuesday, News18 said the Cabinet Secretariat has asked officials to attend the ongoing summit and follow up by submitting brief notes on their experiences and observations, which will then be compiled by the respective secretaries.

The memorandum reportedly stated that officials are required to monitor AI-based innovations, use cases demonstrated at the event and identify applications (apps) relevant to their ministries, departments and organizations.

Each officer must submit a brief note of no more than two pages highlighting significant ideas and potential use cases in the department, the memo said, according to reports18.

The memo reportedly said that departmental and union secretaries would compile these submissions and submit a consolidated report to the Cabinet Secretariat by February 27, a week after the February 20 summit ended.

He emphasized strict adherence to these guidelines.

India AI Impact Summit 2026 begins at Bharat Mandapam

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 kicked off on Monday this week at the Bharat Mandapam, marking the first time a global meeting of this magnitude on artificial intelligence is being organized in the Global South.

The summit will bring together heads of state and government, ministers, global technology leaders, leading researchers, multilateral institutions and industry stakeholders.

They will consider the role of artificial intelligence in promoting inclusive growth, strengthening public systems and enabling sustainable development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the inaugural address on February 19, setting the tone for global collaboration and India’s vision for inclusive and responsible AI.

More than 100 government representatives, including more than 20 heads of state and government and 60 ministers and deputy ministers, will attend the five-day summit from February 16 to 20, 2026, along with more than 500 global AI leaders, including CEOs, founders, academics, researchers, CTOs and philanthropic organizations, the government said in a press release.
