A one-year-old girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Kanichod near Vamanapuram in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday (March 12, 2026).
The police identified the deceased as Pavithra, daughter of Aswathi and Subhash. The child was found unresponsive inside her home. The child’s grandmother, who had gone to work, discovered the toddler lying motionless on a mat on the floor when she returned home.
The child was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. However, doctors informed the family that the child had already died by the time he was brought. There were also signs of strangulation on the body.
According to the police, the death appears to be suspicious and a detailed investigation has been launched into the case. The child’s mother was reportedly at home at the time of the incident.
Although there are some inconsistencies in her statements, police are also investigating whether anyone else entered the house at the time of the incident.
An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death.
