
Weather Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Delhi following heavy rains yesterday, as reported. According to the current weather, strong winds, cloudy skies, rain and thunderstorms are expected in the state capital on April 9, 2026. Rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds and hail are also impacting other parts of the country, especially in North, East and Central India.
Weather forecast in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, UP
These weather conditions are expected over northwest India including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh where light to moderate rainfall with thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds (40-60 km/h) are widespread.
The hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may witness rain/snowfall along with isolated heavy spells. Hail is also expected over parts of the plains and adjacent hills.

According to visuals from Delhi’s India Gate, Kartavya Path area, Delhi woke up to cloudy skies and pleasant mornings after the rain on Tuesday evening.
“Overcast skies. Around very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h in the morning till morning. Another period of very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms/lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h gusts up to 50 km/h afternoon to evening highs are likely to be temperatures over Delhi and afternoon. 27 °C to 29 °C and 16 °C to 18 °C respectively Minimum temperature will be below normal at isolated places (-1.5 to -3.0 °C) and noticeably below normal (-3.1 to -5.0 °C) in remaining parts and maximum temperature will be significantly above normal (-5.1 °C is likely to be from NE to Delhi).surface wind speed reaching up to 22 km/h in the morning Wind speed from NE will decrease to less than 16 kmph during afternoon Wind speed will gradually reduce to less than 14 kmph from NE during evening and night,” the IMD said about Delhi in its latest weather bulletin.
West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, North East
In eastern India, conditions are expected to intensify with rain, thunderstorms and strong winds, including thunderstorm activity over Gangetic West Bengal (gusts up to 80 km/h) and parts of Bihar. Heavy rainfall is also expected over West Bengal and Odisha, while isolated hailstorm may occur over Bihar and Jharkhand.
Northeast India is likely to continue under the influence of widespread rain with thunder and lightning, with isolated heavy rain over Assam and Meghalaya.
Central India
In central India, including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the weather forecast called for scattered showers with thundershowers, gusty winds and isolated hailstorms. On the other hand, Gujarat may see isolated rain with gusty winds.
Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu
Meanwhile, parts of southern states including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu are also likely to witness scattered rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
According to the Meteorological Department, the day temperatures in northwest India will remain below normal to near normal, while there will be no significant change in most other regions.
