Today co-anchor Craig Melvin and Lindsay Czarniak turned their workplace connection into a lifelong partnership.
The couple first crossed paths at WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., where they both worked. Czarniak recalled meeting Melvin during a commercial break shortly after she returned from Beijing in 2008. “I didn’t know him. The first day didn’t make the best impression, but we met during a commercial break,” she shared during a November 2021 episode of Today.
Their relationship blossomed after Czarniak hosted a charity gala a month later, and Melvin attended with other NBC colleagues. He later drove her home, and the two shared a kiss in her apartment kitchen. Though their romance continued for six months, Czarniak initially hesitated to pursue a serious relationship with a colleague. However, Melvin eventually persuaded her to take the next step, and they tied the knot in 2011. The couple welcomed their son, Delano, in 2014 and their daughter, Sybil, in 2016.
Here’s a look at their love story through the years:
2008
Melvin and Czarniak met at NBC4 in Washington, D.C. Their first kiss occurred after the charity gala, and Czarniak recalled thinking the next morning, “Oh, my God. What… did I just do?” Over the next six months, they continued their romance without defining the relationship. Czarniak admitted that the workplace dynamic initially made her cautious.
April 2009
Melvin decided it was time to make their relationship official. He called Czarniak and told her he wanted to move forward. “I don’t understand why it shouldn’t work,” he told The Washington Post in 2011. Czarniak agreed, saying, “Basically, he was like, ‘You’re in or you’re out.’ And I thought, ‘Then I’m in—because I can’t be out.’”
July 2009
After initially keeping their distance, Melvin asked Czarniak out for a drink, and their connection deepened. “The night we met, something clicked,” Czarniak said.
October 2009
The couple officially began dating but kept their relationship private to avoid workplace gossip.
March 2011
Melvin proposed to Czarniak during a sailboat trip in Miami.

November 2024
Czarniak celebrated Melvin’s promotion as the new co-anchor of the first hour of Today with a heartfelt Instagram post. “The opportunity to see the person you love watch their dream come true is such a gift,” she wrote.
January 2025
During his first day as co-anchor, Melvin was surprised by Czarniak, their children, and his family on set. Czarniak praised Melvin’s new role, saying it “symbolizes faith” and likened it to “a husband who gets to a Super Bowl.”
March 2025
Czarniak joined Melvin on Today as a guest, joking that she was the “third wheel” to the co-anchors. She also used the platform to raise awareness for colorectal cancer, a cause close to Melvin’s heart after losing his older brother to the disease in 2020.
