“To develop Kalaburagi as the second capital of the region”

The state government should develop Kalaburagi, the divisional headquarters of Kalyana Karnataka, as the state’s second capital and second administrative centre, said former Zilla Panchayat president Deepaknag Punneshetty.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Punneshetty said decentralization of administrative activities was necessary for the overall development of Kalyana Karnataka region.

“The development of Kalaburagi district as a major administrative center after Bengaluru would make various government services accessible to the people of Kalyana Karnataka region,” he said.

Urging the state government to name major government institutions, buildings and public infrastructure in the region after senior leaders who contributed to the development of Kalyana Karnataka in areas such as education, employment, irrigation, healthcare, social justice and public service, Mr. Punneshetty suggested considering the names of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, former chief ministers, former national president N. Dharam Enil Singh and late president Patra Patdra and Floors. Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha Late Dr. Bheemanna Khandra for such institutions and infrastructure.

Mr. Punneshetty urged the government to set up “Kalyana Karnataka Praja Seva Soudha” at Kalaburagi on the lines of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru and Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi. He also called for the monsoon session of the state legislature to be held in Kalaburagi every year.

Holding the session in the region would ensure greater discussion in the legislature on the problems, development needs and demands of the people of Kalyana Karnataka, he said.

Welcome to ‘Nava Kalyana Karnataka’ initiative.

Mr. Punneshetty welcomed the 10 major development missions announced by the state government under the ‘Nava Kalyana Karnataka’ initiative during the 79th Kalyana Karnataka Utsav held at Kalaburagi on 17 September. These initiatives include Kalyana Karnataka Economic Mission, Bio-Economy Mission, Kalyana Karnata Infrastructure Development Campaign in Kalyana Karnataburagi 50,000 places for families without family houses, IT Park, AI-based CCTV network, tourism and cultural heritage development and a 10 crore tree planting campaign.

These initiatives have the potential to boost development in the areas of economy, agriculture, health, urban infrastructure, housing and environment, he said and urged the government to ensure their effective and time-bound implementation to accelerate the overall development of Kalyana Karnataka region.
