Chairman of the Congress Committee Tamil Nadu K. Selvaperunthagai
On Monday, the chairman of the Congress Committee of Tamil Nadu K. SelvaVerunthagai condemned the eviction of hundreds of Tamils from the Yangpura area in Delhi and the demolition of their homes on the basis of a court order.
In his statement, Mr. Selvaterunthagai said that most of those who were evicted were involved in everyday wages, housework and everyday work.
“When the houses are demolished by the police, their children’s education becomes questionable. Women suffer from safety, water and electricity. The Government and the BJP government in Delhi did not provide full relief to affected people.”
Mr. Selvavaperunthagai demanded that these displacements be given accommodation and that job opportunities be created in nearby areas.
“The appropriate compensation for loss of life and damage to assets should be provided. The Union’s government should understand that Congress will be strongly against any action that will not respect the right to the life of Tamil,” he said.
