The Tamil Nadu government would be a technical commission that would explore concerns about pollution in the Bhavani River for the planned expansion of the textile processing unit in the Gobickettipaayam Taluk in the Erode district, reported Minister Thangharas on Monday.
On the basis of a report and recommendation of the Technical Commission, the state government would decide on this matter, Thanghangam Thanghangam said. He responded to a proposal to the attention of the challenges that was moved by members, including Kaiadmk Ka Sengottaiyan.
As regards the request of Mr. Sengottaiyan, not to allow wastewater from Barvice to the river to the river, the Minister stated that the state government was against the permission of the release of waste disposal from Barvice units into the rivers. “I have guided the officials of the Council for Controlling Tamil Nadu to take steps in this respect,” he told Thinnaras.
According to a detailed report submitted in the house of Mr. Tharnara, M/S. Sri Bhavani Textile Processors Private Limited has operated a unit in Gobichettipalayam Taluk in the Erode district since 1984 and has expanded the necessary permit.
Given the court proceedings before the Madras High Court and the complaint receiving the unit, the permit for the unit was not renewed between April 2005 and 2020. Since the fine imposed was not paid and the supply of electricity was disconnected and ordered in July 2014.
In the case of the Supreme Court in Madras, an connection to electricity was restored in April 2018, but only for maintenance purposes that were valid until May 2018. In January 2022, the permit was extended to six months. The electricity supply was renewed in July 2022. The unit resumed the permit between 2020 and 2026.
In May 2023, he took over the new management, which applied for permission for the operation of other facilities. During the inspection, it was found not to be used. Since 2023, farmers have been objected to the unit.
Based on the inputs received from the Council for Control of Pollution Tamil Nadu and Reports of the Inspectorate Inspectorate from the collector Erode in 2023 and 2024, in February 2024, a permit was granted until March 2026.
There were protests against the unity, the minister said. During public complaints, meetings organized by the collector Erode 28 and 28 March this year are corrected by complaints, and complaints were received in this respect. They were concerned that the unit was more chances of pollution of the Bhavani River because of its close proximity.
