The Tamil Nadu government has reconstituted the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA) and appointed retired IAS officer K. Phanindra Reddy as its chairman.
Retired IAS officers Reeta Harish Thakkar and Mythili K. Rajendran, retired district magistrate S. Kirubaharan Mathuram and retired chief engineer KP Sathyamurthy have been appointed as members of the authority, according to a government order issued by the Housing and Urban Development Department.
Mr. Reddy was earlier appointed as the chairman of TNRERA, while retired District Judge A. Nazir Ahmed and Ms. Thakkar were also appointed as members for a period of six months or until the state government re-constitutes the authority, in exercise of the substitute powers conferred under Section 82 of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.
Now, their appointments have been made on the recommendation of a selection committee formed for the purpose. TNRERA is a statutory body established under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.
The appointment followed the resignation of former IAS officer Shiv Das Meen, who served as TNRERA chairman from 18 August 2024, and members retired IAS officer L. Subramanian, D. Jagannathan, advocate M. Krishnamoorthy and Sukumar Chittibabu, former chief financial officer of Greater Corporation. They resigned after the regime change in the state.
