
A state-wide video conference was held on Tuesday with the participation of all District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners to inform them about the upcoming activities of Census 2027. The meeting was presided over by Revenue Commissioner M. Saikumar, also the State Census 2027 officer.
During the meeting, the Commissioner of Revenue Administration (CRA) highlighted the critical nature of the exercise and provided a roadmap of essential steps to be prioritized by the Collectors and Commissioners at the district and corporation levels to ensure smooth execution, an official release said. Tamil Nadu Director of Census Operations M. Sundaresh Babu gave a comprehensive technical briefing.
During the meeting, the historical legacy and socio-economic significance of the census, legal provisions and legal obligations governing the process, new features and methodology specially designed for the 2027 census, integration of advanced technologies and digital platforms to increase data accuracy and speed of collection were discussed.
Krishnagiri and Tiruvallur Collectors shared their observations and learnings from the census preliminary test, highlighting the basic challenges and best practices for the main enumeration, he said.
