The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has launched the third synchronized survey of the Nilgiri Tahr from April 24 to 27, covering the entire range of the species across the state. The annual exercise conducted under the flagship Nilgiri Tahr Project plays a key role in the long-term conservation planning of Tamil Nadu’s state animal.
The survey is being carried out in coordination with the Kerala Forest Department to ensure a simultaneous census across the shared landscape of the Western Ghats. This synchronized approach avoids duplication of counts and offers a more accurate population estimate across state lines.
