Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Saturday announced an increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and teachers with effect from July 2026.

A state government press release said DA for employees has been increased from 60% to 63%, following a similar hike for central government employees from July 2026. The revised DA will apply to Tamil Nadu government employees and teachers with effect from the same date.

A total of 16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners will benefit from the increase. This increase will cost the government ₹1,858 crore annually. “This will help them celebrate Deepavali happily,” the government statement added.
