TN BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran condemns arrest of farmers who want loan waiver

BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran on Friday (October 23, 2026) condemned the arrest of farmers in Tiruchi district who staged a protest for farm loan waiver as per the assurance given in the TVK election manifesto. He asked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay if the problems could be solved by simply arresting the protesting farmers.

In a post on social media, Mr. Nagenthran referred to a report published in the Hindu Tamil Thisai about the detention of more than 200 farmers in Samayapuram in Tiruchi district. The farmers staged a protest to waive off agricultural loans in line with the assurance given in the election manifesto of TVK. He condemned the detention saying, “You will not fulfill the assurance by waiving off farm loans to farmers who own more than five acres of land but arrest them when they ask about it?
