The ruling DMK on Thursday formally signed seat-sharing agreements with four organisations, which were earlier allotted one seat, to contest under the Secular Progressive Alliance.
Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi led by Thamimun Ansari, Mukkulathor Puli Padai led by actor Karunas, Social Democratic Party of India led by VMS Mohammed Mubarak and Tamilarska Desam Katchi led by KK Selvakumar will fight for one seat each on the DMK’RIsing Sun symbol.
The seat-sharing agreements were signed by DMK President and Chief Minister MK Stalin and respective party leaders at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters, in Chennai.
Former MLA joins DMK
Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhgam (AMMK) Deputy General Secretary M. Rengasamy joined the DMK separately in the presence of Mr. Stalin on Thursday.
Mr. Rengasamy contested and won as an AIADMK candidate from the Thanjavur Assembly segment in the 2011 and 2016 Assembly elections.
He was among the 18 dissident AIADMK MLAs who were disqualified for supporting the TTV Dhinakaran faction in 2017.
