Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K. Selvaperunthagai on Monday said the party’s candidates for the Assembly elections would be announced in a day or two after the AICC Central Election Committee meeting.
“If the committee meets soon, the candidates will be announced tomorrow or the day after,” he said. Mr. Selvaperunthagai said the CPI (M) would field its candidate in Padmanabhapuram, ruling out the possibility of a seat swap under the DMK-led alliance. Mr. Selvaperunthagai told reporters that the manifesto issued by DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin was a “historic manifesto” and attracted people from all walks of life.
“It is a manifesto that has appealed to the low-income groups and the middle classes. The election results would mirror those of the 1996 elections (when the DMK alliance secured a landslide victory),” he said.
