Tirupati district, especially its coastal mandal, is on high alert following the forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday.
A control room has been set up at Tirupati Collectorate where the public can call 0877-2236007 for updates on weather and government measures. Similarly, the control room at Gudur sub-collector’s office can be contacted at 08624-252807 or 85000 08279.
Collector S. Venkateswar directed district and mandal officials to provide a dedicated phone number for receiving public feedback and sending alerts. He also ordered hourly reports on the situation to be submitted to him so that real-time action could be taken.
At a meeting held on Tuesday, he discussed measures to mitigate the loss of life and property due to heavy rains. Officials have been urged to ensure preparedness at all levels and leave nothing to chance.
Tirupati Municipal Corporation Commissioner N. Mourya has been directed to visit low-lying areas and oversee efforts to drain excess water. She was also asked to have support materials ready for those likely to be affected.
The medical and health department has been instructed to dispatch emergency medicines and first aid supplies across the district, while the agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry departments have been advised to coordinate with farmers and devise measures to protect crops and livestock.
