The Tirupati district administration has set an ambitious target of increasing the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) by 18 per cent for the five-year period from 2024-25 to 2028-29, District Collector S. Venkateswar said.
After unfurling the national flag at the 77th Republic Day celebrations at a parade here on Monday, the Collector said the vision documents at the district and mandal level have been prepared in line with the firm commitment of the central and state governments for development under the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.
Accordingly, GSDP is expected to increase from the current ₹68,675 crore to ₹1,59,090 crore. Similarly, the per capita income of ₹ 2.71 lakh will be increased to ₹ 6.21 lakh with the introduction of mandal vision document. Under the P4 programme, 86,530 ‘Bangaru Kutumbalu’ were identified for poverty alleviation, out of which 64,239 families would adopt 4,526 benefactors, identified as ‘Margadarsi’.
With an emphasis on tourism, the Collector emphasized the development of spiritual tourism, beach tourism and leisure tourism through the development of resorts. Similarly, the administration will focus on making Tirupati ready for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) tourism, he said recalling the inauguration of several star hotels in the recent past. He also termed the recently held Flamingo Festival in Sullurpet as a hit among tourists.
Firefighters sprayed water in the colors of the national flag. Cultural programs, stalls and scenes presented by various departments enthralled the audience. Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu welcomed the District Collector’s Republic Day procession after which he received a guard of honour.
The pictures of the Department of Electricity stood first, followed by the Departments of Agriculture and Horticulture, which bagged the second prize, and the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) took the third place. Similarly, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and ICDS were ranked first, second and third among the stalls.
