Tiruchi Corporation gathered a total of 26.28 GBP Lakh by penalizing the owners and auctioning an unsolicited ranking since its opening efforts to seize vicious cattle from the city roads in 2022.
After repeated concerns raised by the citizens, the civic body intensified the drive. Teams guard the city roads continuously throughout the city, including residential colonies, with a special focus on the main roads and market areas to avert the close place in operation.
According to the official source, 819 animals and 22.83 GBP Lakh were confiscated by the collected penalties of owners between November 2022 and May 2025. A total of 51 animals were auctioned for 3.45 Lakh. Auctions have been carried out four times in the last two years.
This month, up to 103 heads of stray cattle were confiscated, causing an obstacle to the movement of vehicles on the road, and a fine of 2.57 GBP Lakh was collected from their owners. Currently, four animals are protected at Konakkarai and 31 are on East Boulevard Road. The owners of stray cattle are imposed a sentence of 2,500 GBP per capita. Officials stated that they were planning to auction of cattle within a week of detention and a sentence for repeated perpetrators.
The civic body was named three agencies to confiscate the stray cattle from the roads and move them to a safe shelter to Konakkarai and EB Road, which can accommodate about 70 to 100 animals. While one agency captures the stray cattle in I and V zones, the other will drive in the II and III zones. The third agency performs enforcement in zone IV. The drive is performed continuously.
Each team includes eight to 10 members with experience of handling animals. They were assigned a special vehicle equipped with a hydraulic elevator and a folding ramp for confiscating and safely moving the vicious cattle to the shelter. Almost 10 animals are rounded on average every day. Officials stated that other vehicles would be obtained if necessary.
Meanwhile, the civic body is set to introduce licenses for cattle in the city for 450 GBP for cows and horses. Cattle registration would allow the owners to gain benefits from the animal breeding department, such as health cards and inspections, the official added.
