Tim David has revealed that his 106m six against Chennai Super Kings was no fluke but the result of a unique training drill at Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The Australian power-hitter said the team regularly competes to hit the roof of the stadium during practice sessions.
David’s monster knock through the roof at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium became one of the standout moments of IPL 2026. After the match, he explained how these training contests translate into real-game performance, with batting coach Dinesh Karthik also highlighting the role of repetition in perfecting his power shots.

“Yeah, I got into trouble coaching the lads. We have competitions to try and hit them on the roof and of course we’re on the side pitches. So to get one during a match off center is quite nice. And Jamie bowls faster at that stage. So into that one, help him to the roof. It’s good fun,” said David.
David’s innings was the defining act in RCB’s dominant performance. Walking in with the platform already set by Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal, he turned a strong total into an unassailable one, smashing an unbeaten 70 off 25 balls. His late surge, including 30 runs from Jamie Overton, helped RCB finish at 250/3 before bowling CSK for 207.
HOW TIM DAVID CAUSED RUIN VS CSK
David’s punch was a brutal exhibition of power punches combined with precision. He focused on the shorter boundaries, capitalized on any minor mistakes and maintained a relentless pace through the death overs.
His 106m six off Overton was outstanding not just for its distance but also for its timing and execution, clearing the roof of the stadium and sending the Bengal crowd into a frenzy. The 30-run over alone completely broke CSK’s resistance.
Although he had a bit of luck when he bowled a no-ball earlier in the innings, David made sure CSK paid the price. He finished with eight sixes and three boundaries, fueling RCB’s late onslaught that saw them add over 100 runs in the closing stages.
Karthik later described David as a naturally gifted hitter whose strength comes not from ability alone, but from consistent, focused practice. On the night that everything clicked, that preparation turned into complete dominance.
