A tigress and her four cubs died in Madhya Pradesh’s Kanha Tiger Reserve (KTR) in the past two weeks, with the mother and cub dying on Wednesday (April 29, 2026), officials said. So far in 2026, 27 tigers have died in the state.
The five animals died of a lung infection, prompting state wildlife officials to open an investigation into the deaths as they suspect an outbreak of canine distemper virus (CDV), which is spread through dogs.
