
A ten -year -old tiger was found in Segur Forest on Sunday morning.
The forest department said that carcasses of the animal were found in the Gunatti Beat of Segur Forest Range in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve’s buffer zone. Postmort on the remnants of the animal was ordered on the basis of protocols laid down by the National Tigers Protection Authority (NTCA), the ministry said.
The preliminary investigation revealed that it seemed that the tiger seemed to suffer injury, perhaps caused by the fight for another animal. The department added that the animal samples were taken for forensic analysis to confirm its cause of death.
This is the second death of tigers recorded in Nilgiris in the last few days. On Thursday another tiger at the age of about eight years in the forest line of Pykara in the division of the forest Nilgiris. Forest officials said that preliminary investigation points to both animals that die due to natural causes.
