Vice President of India CP Radhakrishnan said on Saturday that spirituality helps make people good and responsible citizens in the society.
He was addressing devotees at the Sri Narayani Peedam, which is also known as the Golden Temple, at Thirumalaikodi village in the suburbs of Vellore Corporation. “Spirituality surpasses all other forces in the world by bringing people together. It spreads the virtue of kindness among people and turns them into responsible citizens of society,” he said.
The Vice President said that spirituality helps individuals to do good deeds in life. It helps to instill a disciplined way of life in individuals who would be guided by moral values rather than being self-centered. “Spirituality lies everywhere in society. No one can destroy it because it is deeply rooted in the minds of people in every country,” he said.
Recalling his visit to the Golden Temple many years ago, Mr. Radhakrishnan noted that he had visited the temple with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he was serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2002. Since then, he had visited the temple many times and strengthened its spirituality. “Former Presidents of India like APJ Abdul Kalam and Ram Nath Kovind and incumbent President Droupadi Murmu have visited the Golden Temple as it serves as the center of spirituality in the country,” he said.
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan was present on the occasion. Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister M Mathiventhan and Collector VR Subbulaxmi had earlier met Vice President Mr Radhakrishnan at the helipad at the temple as a courtesy call.
Around 1,300 policemen have been deployed for the Vice President’s visit to Vellore on Saturday. The district was declared a no-fly zone for visitors. As part of the security measures of the visit, the operation of drones and other unconventional aerial objects was prohibited.
