As soon as the heavy lack of groundwater is facing, although it is located on the banks of the Bharathapuzha River, the Thrritala constituency is now appearing as a model of refilling groundwater and sustainable rural development, thanks to the ambitious Suusthira Thrithal project.
This multi-sector initiative, which is headed by the Minister for Local Government MB Rajesh
Thrital’s challenges were rooted with 19,417 hectares across Pattambi Taluk and including 32 micro-watersheds. Despite its proximity to Bharathapuzha, it falls into the half -blooded category for groundwater availability, noted A. Nizamudeen, CEO of the Keral Institute of Local Administration (Kila), which coordinated the initiative.
“The Suusthira Thrrital project, which recognized this paradox, accepted the planning and implementation model based on the river basin and combined the district administration, Harith Kerallam Mission, LSG, Scientific Agency, NGO and School.
The main success lies in its comprehensive strategy of water management, Mr. Nizamudeen noted. Artificial groundwater recharge systems installed in 40 institutions now show 8.39 million liters of rainwater every year. Water levels in observation holes have improved from a depth of 11 m (2020) to 10.18 m (2025). Creating 107 agricultural ponds and reconstruction of 64 public ponds collectively added to the water level. While the reconstruction of 139 channels and more than 650 households and Anganwadi will well charge the availability of water.
“Agriculture appears within the project. Unpeeled cultivation was re -presented on 556 hectares, which provided another 667 tons of rice. Coconut seedlings (one lakh) were planted and the thrritala became the first village, with 100 farmers managed 100 beds.
As part of the initiative, more than 53,000 fishermen were released up to 85 public ponds. In addition, 3,807 kW roof solar capacity was installed. Waste management took place, with 234 mini MCF (material collection equipment) established and 281 tons of not biodegradable waste safely manipulated, reducing carbon emissions by 16%.
What makes Susthira Thrrital remarkable is its deep-rooted involvement of community-Kudumbashree community and traders who distributed 25,000 fabric bags to school eco-friendly and business support for green initiatives.
With the first Indian budget for water districts and the integrated coordination of the Thrritala Department, it determines a replicable scale in sustainable administration. Thrithala uses every drop of rain in his mission, leading the way to the development of the rural climate resistant.
