The scorching sun was harsher than ever, the humidity was unbearable and there was a gloom in the air. Nevertheless, the Thrissur Pooram unfolded in all its glory on Sunday (April 26, 2026). The reduced format did not deter Pooram lovers from Thekkinkadu Maidan crowd. They were determined to make the most of what was left and keep the spirit of the festival alive.
After the fireworks tragedy in Mundathikode that claimed 15 lives, the authorities have decided to hold this year’s Thrissur Pooram without fireworks. While all the main rituals were maintained, the Kudamattam was shortened to just 15 minutes, with only 10 sets of umbrellas on display.
