The second annual Thrissur Cultural Capital Marathon was held at the Thrissur Corporation Stadium on Sunday and attracted nearly 3,000 participants.
The full marathon in the 32 kilometer category started at 3:30. District Collector Arjun Pandian flagged off the race and also participated, completing the run in 4 hours and 19 minutes.
The 21 kilometer half marathon which started at 4.30 am was flagged off by Perumbavoor Deputy Superintendent of Police Hardik Meena who also participated in the race. The 10 kilometer category, held at 5.30 am, was jointly flagged off by representatives of Kerala Gramin Bank and Elite Group.
The five kilometer run started at 6.30 am and was flagged off by Thrissur City Police Commissioner Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh and Thrissur Corporation Mayor Dr. Niji Justin who also participated in the marathon.
About 50 people took part in the wheelchair run organized under the theme “Back to the track”.
The closing ceremony held after the races was attended by Revenue Minister K. Rajan, Ms. Justin, Mr. Pandian, Mr. Deshmukh along with representatives of Kerala Gramin Bank and Elite Foods.
