All 56 members elected to the Thrissur Corporation and 30 members elected to the district panchayat took oath at a ceremony held at the Corporation Hall and District Planning Bhavan, respectively, on Sunday.
District Collector Arjun Pandian administered the oath to senior elected councilor ML Rosy at a function at the Corporation Hall. Ms Rosy, elected from Kalathode division, later administered the oath to the remaining councillors.
Revenue Minister K. Rajan, MLA P. Balachandran, former mayors and councilors and other members of the public attended the ceremony. After taking the oath, the first meeting of the newly elected board of the company was convened in the hall of the company, which was chaired by Mrs. Rosy.
During the swearing-in ceremony of the district panchayat members, Mr. Pandian administered the oath to senior elected member Mary Thomas.
Mrs. Thomas, elected from the Vazhany division, then administered the oath to the remaining members. Of the newly formed members, nine took the oath in the name of God, the remaining 21 members decided to solemnly affirm.
The oath taking ceremony was attended by Mr. Balachandran, former district panchayat president VS Prince, former vice president Latha Chandran and other members.
After the ceremony, the first meeting of the district panchayat was convened in the district panchayat hall to initiate steps to start the administrative functions.
