
Revenue and Housing Minister K Rajan on Thursday announced that housing coverage under LIFE mission has been completed in Thrissur district. The announcement was made at a function held at the District Planning Hall in Thrissur where implementing officers were felicitated for their role in the successful implementation of the programme.
During the function, the minister formally announced the district’s success in the housing mission and distributed certificates of appreciation to the village extension officers who played a key role in the implementation of the programme.
The minister also released the book ‘Haritha Darshanam’ marking ten years of environmental restoration efforts under Haritha Keralam Mission. The first copy of the book was handed over to District Panchayat President Mary Thomas.
Praising the district administration, Rajan said that Thrissur has set an example by successfully providing housing assistance to all eligible beneficiaries listed under the landless category.
Speaking as the chief guest, Higher Education Minister R Bindu said LIFE mission is one of the largest housing programs in the world and added that Thrissur’s progress in implementing the project is a matter of pride for the state.
Mary Thomas, chairing the function, said the priority in the coming financial year would be to provide land and houses to landless and homeless families.
As part of LIFE Mission in Thrissur district, all local self-governing institutions have signed up to extend housing benefits to all eligible beneficiaries listed under the homeless land category. So far, 37,426 houses have been completed in the district under the project, and another 7,890 houses are in various stages of construction.
