Three students drown in Kerala’s Kozhikode

Three students drowned in two separate incidents in Kozhikode district on Friday (August 28, 2026). Nabeel, 19, Palayad and Sinan, 12, Varappurangadi, Orkatteri, drowned while swimming in the Chovva river at Maniyur near Vadakara.

The accident occurred near the Mooriyad stretch of river. The two were part of a group of four students who went to the river to learn how to swim. All four were reportedly washed away, but two managed to swim to safety.

In the second incident, Mohammed Shaheen, 17, drowned in a river at Manipuram in Koduvally while fishing with friends. Those accompanying him alerted the residents after which the police and rescue team from Mavoor fire station launched a search. Shaheen’s body was found trapped under a fallen tree in the river.
