Central crimes branch officials arrested three police officers on Monday, including a suspended constable of Davanagere, who lured the owners of urban medical trade by promising to return the money he had lost in illegal gold trade and postponed 4 ₹ Lakh.
The suspicion of something that Fisha, the victim of Tabrez J., turned to the city commissioner of the police with a petition that handed over the CCB case for a detailed probe.
According to the complaint, Tabrez, who owned medicine in Devanahali, was approached by a man identified as Ramesh for a general medicine in March this year. After several visits, he made friends with him and made it an offer to sell four kg of gold coins for a cheap rate obtained from a friend.
After concluding the agreement, Tabrez went to check the gold coins in the village near Harihara and confirmed that they were real. He agreed to buy two kg of gold coins for 12 lakh. He arranged money from his savings and even received a loan to pay money and bought gold coins. After getting coins, he realized they were fake.
While trying to contact Ramesh, he got a call from Constable Mahboob and Head Constable Yuuraj, who introduced himself as police station RT Nagar and assured he would get back the money he lost. Initially, Tabrez was shocked because he did not approach the police, but after meeting the duo he was convinced and agreed to their help. Tabrez accompanied them to Davanagere and met their colleague Maruthi, a constant who also assured that he helped them get the amount. According to Maruthi, Maruthi said that only 8 lakh could get back of the total loss of 12 Lakh and handed over cash on April 29.
The accused later made a cut from Tabrez for his help and only 4.5 lakh returned. Initially, Tabrez agreed to restore any amount he could, but after a discussion of the problem with his family and friends, realized he was cheated and approached the police. Police arrested Maruthi, suspended police constant from the office Davanagere sp. Maruthi had a history of many cases and awaiting the investigation of the department, the police said.
CCB officials are now investigating to find out a possible criminal background of arrested police officers. The police still have to gain clarity whether the whole “cheating of the gold coin” was accused, said the case probing the head of the policeman, he said.
