On February 19, the Chikkamagaluru police took three people into custody on charges of moral policing.
The accused allegedly stopped a boy and a girl from different communities while they were returning from school on a bicycle and interrogated them. After receiving information about the incident, the Chikkamagaluru police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by the boy’s family and arrested the accused — Nayaz, Tabrez and Haneef.
Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Dayama told the media that the district police will crack down on those involved in moral policing. “Two persons threatened the minor children. Apart from this, several other people intervened in the problem. There was no assault,” the SP said.
