Three persons arrested for possession of 600 narcotic tablets in Arakkonam

Arakkonam city police on Saturday arrested three persons for possession of 600 narcotic tablets (Tapentadol) near Arakkonam railway station.

The arrested persons were identified as K. Subash, 22, V. Elango, 26, and B. Saravanan, 22. They were residents of Chennai.

An initial investigation revealed that on a tip-off to Ranipet SP P. Sibin, special teams were formed to conduct surprise checks at public places like bus terminals, railway stations and isolated buildings in the district.

Accordingly, a special police team was conducting a routine check near Arakkonam railway station when the team nabbed the suspects.

The team checked the trio and their bags and found narcotic tablets in them. Investigation revealed that the gang had placed an order for the tablets with pharmacies in Mumbai. The tablets were sent to them by courier.

Police said the gang was on its way to the railway station in Chennai, where it planned to sell at a retail outlet. A case has been registered. The arrested persons have been lodged in Vellore Central Jail and investigation is on.
