Social Security payments December 2025: The good news for millions of US citizens is that Social Security payments will soon be credited to their bank accounts.
Recipients of some Social Security programs are set to get a windfall in their bank accounts in December, not because of the law change but because of the New Year’s holiday.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will see their benefits in their bills on December 31 instead of January 1 because it is a federal holiday in the United States. SSI payments are always issued in advance if the current payment date falls on a holiday.
Three payments in December
There will be a triple bonanza for some US citizens before 2026 begins. About 25 million Americans who receive both SSI and Social Security benefits will have three payments credited to their bank accounts in December.
These include two SSI and Social Security payments for December as well as January, according to a report by The Sun.
The COLA increase in 2026 increases SSI payments
SSI benefit compensation will increase after the 2026 COLA update, which will be implemented on December 31st. The cost of living adjustment (COLA) was confirmed at 2.8% in the 2026 COLA update.
About 7.5 million U.S. citizens will receive a pay raise before Dec. 31, according to a report by The Sun.
The report goes on to say that under this, an individual SSI recipient will receive a benefit of $994 per month instead of the current $967. Couples who receive an SSI payment will see the same increase from $1,450 a month to $1,491.
How much will social security contributions increase?
Social Security payments to beneficiaries will also increase in 2026, according to a report by The Economic Times.
Those who retired at full retirement age will receive $4,152 a month starting in 2026, the report says. That’s an increase of more than $100 from the $4,018 they received in 2025.
For those retiring at age 70, the maximum Social Security payment will increase from $5,108 a month to $5,251.
February and March payments ahead of schedule
Calendar-driven payment benefits don’t end in December itself. SSI recipients will receive their February payment on January 30 itself. February 1 falls on a Sunday, which is also a federal holiday.
The next March payment will come on February 27. It’s also because March 1 falls on a Sunday.
