Three people in the family drowned in the lake Srinivasa Sagar in Chikkabballapura and tried to save a child who waded into the waters on Wednesday.
While the child was saved, those who went to save the child drowned. The bodies were later restored by fire and emergency services.
The deceased was identified as Farheena Begum, 35 years, Basheer, 36 years, both inhabitants of Chickball and their relatives from Bengalur, Imran, 45.
The widespread Farheena Begum family first went to Nandi Hills to celebrate the id-ul-fitr. However, the group realized that the vehicles were not allowed on the hills of Nandi Hills, and then went to Srinivasa Sagar Lake, a popular picnic site on the outskirts of Chickbalpur.
The child of Farheena Begum reportedly waded into water waters after Farheen plunged into the water to save the child. But she didn’t know how to swim and began to drown. Soon the others plunged into the waters to save the child and Farheen. While they saved the child, Farheen and two more – Basheer and Imran – drowned, the police said.
The local police officer said that Lake Srinivasa Sagar is a popular picnic point in this area, especially during the monsoon and crowds were thin on Wednesday. The officer added that there was no security measures that would prevent people from entering the lake on the spot and the high time measures were taken.
