Three National Democratic Alliance candidates were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Assam on Monday (March 9, 2026) contesting the assembly elections.
Two of them — minister Jogen Mohan and MLA Terash Gowala — are from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the third is Pramod Boro, president of the United Liberal Party.
They were declared elected unopposed on the last date for withdrawal of nominations as the opposition did not contest the election.

Mr. Mohan is an Ahom and Mr. Gowala is an Adivasi. Their communities are among the six required Scheduled Tribe status in Assam.
Mr. Boro belongs to the Bodo community, the largest plains tribe in the Northeast and the dominant ethnic group in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
“Getting my MP certificate is a deeply humbling moment. I thank everyone in and outside BTR for their trust and blessings. I look forward to raising the issues of all the people of BTR and Assam in the Rajya Sabha,” Mr. Boro said.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the trio. “…I am confident that they will deftly take up Assam’s cause in the upper house and continue to speak for the people of our state while supporting the nationalist and developmental agenda of our Union Government in Parliament,” he wrote in a post on X.
