Three people, including two schoolchildren, were reported on a motorized ship, where they partially sank in the district of Nalbari Western Assam on Thursday (June 19, 2025) in the morning.
The boat from the ferry of the ferry of Peredha Ghat to Larcuchi met an accident in the Brahmaputra tributary. It carries more than 100 passengers, mostly children went to school.
Three reported missing are Abdul Gafur, 50; Aryan Ali, student of class 3; and Majidul Islam, student of class 9.
The Nibedan Das Patary District Commissioner said that six divers were dealt with in the search and rescue operations to disasters and state forces for disasters.
Others swim to safety
“The roof of the ship collapsed, which led to the incident. Three people are reported when others were swimming on the shore,” he said.
Mr. Patowar said that inland water transport (IWT) reported the first information report against the ship’s operator, which found that the law had violated the naval engine.
After a similar accident on Brahmaputr in the Jorhat district of East Assam in 2021, IWT ordered all private ships to replace their only engines with sea engines. One person was killed in this accident.
