Three killed, four injured in rain-related incidents in Krishna, NTR districts

Three people died and four others were injured in separate rain-related incidents on Thursday.

A woman, identified as Darapureddy Samrajyam (53), was electrocuted after she came in contact with a broken live wire on the road at Peddakallepalli village in Mopidevi mandal of Krishna district, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Avanigadda R. Abhishek said.

In another incident, two youths died after the bike they were riding was hit by a four-wheeler at Penumudi Bridge near Avanigadda. Poor visibility and slippery roads due to rain were suspected as the cause of the accident.

The Avanigadda police have registered a case and shifted the bodies for post-mortem, the DSP said.

Meanwhile, 30 houses were damaged due to the gale in Chintalapadu village of Tiruvuru mandal, Mylavaram Assistant Commissioner of Police (AKP) P. Ramachandar Rao said. Four people were also injured, he added.

“Demonstrations were organized in the Ultavag, Kakalavag, Kattaler and other streams as a preventive measure,” ACP said.

A car was washed away in the stormy Pedavaag of Nunna village in Krishna district. However, Srinivas Reddy and his wife, who were on board the vehicle, were rescued.

Heavy rain damaged crops in Nandigama, Jaggaiahpet, Tiruvuru and other areas in NTR and Krishna districts.

District Collector NTR G. Lakshmisha, MLA Kolikapudi Srinivas, MRO Rajya Lakshmi and other officials visited villages on Thursday and inquired about the situation in Tiruvur, Mylavaram and Nandigama mandal.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Commander VVN Prasanna Kumar said five teams have been sent to Srikakulam, Parvathipuram-Manyam, Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema and Alluri Sitharamaraju.

A team from Regional Response Center (RRC) Visakhapatnam has been deployed in the affected areas in Visakhapatnam district, he said.

Krishna District Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu said that patrols have been made on roads where streams have overflowed onto the roads.

Eluru District Collector K. Vetriselvi and Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore appealed to the public not to cross the overflowing streams or leave the dilapidated buildings.
