Three, including an elderly couple, died in separate accidents

Three people, including an elderly couple, died and a boy was injured in two separate road accidents in the district.

In the first incident, Jose Varghese (66) of Urulanthani, Kuttampuzha and his wife Susan (57) were killed when the scooter they were riding collided with a private bus in Kothamangalam on Sunday (September 27, 2026).

The accident took place around 10.30 am at Thundam junction on Vadattupara road, Kuttampuzz police said.

According to the FIR, the two-wheeler collided head-on with a private bus which was heading towards Bhoothatthankett from Vadattupara while passing a bend.

Though the couple were taken to a private hospital in Kothamangalam, they were declared brought dead, police said. The Kuttampuzha police have registered a case against the bus driver for allegedly reckless driving and causing death by negligence.

In a second accident, a 34-year-old man died and his six-year-old son was injured after his two-wheeler was reportedly hit by a truck on Saturday (September 26, 2026) night.

Rameesh, 34, of Fort Kochi died on the spot while his son Ridan, who was riding the pilot, sustained injuries in the accident that happened near Kuzhikkattukara Juma Masjid in Edathala. The Edathala police have registered a case over the incident.
