Three members of a gang involved in a violent house robbery at a flat in East Marredpally earlier this month were arrested on Tuesday in a joint operation by the Commissionerate Task Force, Secunderabad Zone and Lalaguda police. Officials recovered 28.8 grams of gold ornaments worth about ₹4.5 million.
The accused, identified as Gurrappagari Mahesh, 36, a laborer, Chinnakotla Pavan Kumar alias Bavanna, 48, a construction worker, and Geeju Surendra, 37, all natives of Cheekirevulapalle village in Sri Sathya Sai Soon in Andhra Pradesh, were arrested when they were trying to move to a railway station near the Secu railway station.
During the arrest, police recovered an 18.15 gram gold chain, a 3.15 gram gold ring and a 7.52 gram gold bracelet along with two mobile phones.
Investigation revealed that the prime accused Mahesh had previously worked as a watchman at Arihant Sadan Apartment from October 2021 to May 2024 and was familiar with the layout of the building and the routine of the residents. After returning to his native village and working as a labourer, he conspired with the other two accused to commit a robbery to cover personal expenses.
On 21 January 2026, Mahesh and Pavan traveled to Hyderabad, entered an apartment on the third floor of an apartment complex and threatened the resident before robbing her of the gold ornaments she was wearing. They then fled the scene and regrouped with Surendra in Secunderabad before traveling to Karnataka where they shared the stolen property and parted ways.
Police said the main accused has a criminal background and is involved in two cases of kidnapping registered at Karkhana police station in 2024, while the second accused was found to be involved in a murder case registered in Bengaluru in 2019.
To crack the case, Secunderabad Task Force and Lalaguda police formed five special teams and tracked the movement of the accused through intelligence and surveillance before nabbing them.
