Three people, including two children, were electric on Monday and immediately died in the village of Chillaputtuga in Talatampar Panchayat, Kanchili Mandal, Srikakulm district. The deceased were identified as ESwar, 28, B. Nandini, 12 and N. Kumar, 3.
According to police officials, the victims came into contact with live wires during the local parade in the village. Five others also suffered an electric shock, but escaped minor injuries.
According to sources, several families from Berehampura brought decorative lights and installed them without taking proper safety measures. Drizzle and Gales caused the wires to catch, leading to an accident when the victims accidentally touched the wires.
The villagers reportedly detained this information and prevented the police staff from entering the village for fear that the festival would be disturbed and the village would get a bad name with the incident.
The police learned about the incident and started investigating the death of three people.
