“Three people, including an older woman and minors, died in Meghalay in the East Khasi Hills after heavy rain in the last 24 hours,” officials said on Friday (May 30, 2025.)
“A woman at the age of 50 died in the village of Lumkyntung for land landslides, while a 35 -year -old man drowned in Pastlak Mawbyno when he was flooded with continuous rain in the area,” they said. “Another death was reported from the Mawkynrew block when the tree fell on a 15 -year -old boy,” the officials said. Main Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced compensation 4 ₹ Lakh on his other relatives.
“More than 1,000 people were affected in 25 villages due to landslides, lightning floods and power lines,” said PTI official for the administration of disasters in the state.
“The school and the office were flooded in the Ri-Bhoi district due to the downpour, while several roads in the East Khasi Hills district were damaged by lightning floods,” he said.
“CM Sangma ordered the departments and officials to take the necessary measures to minimize the impact of the situation,” he added. “Sohra and MaSynram Towns in the East Khasi Hills district have received more than 350 mm of precipitation in the last 24 hours,” Met Department said.
“Meanwhile, searching and rescue operations started for a couple from Indore Madhya Pradesh, who disappeared last week in the Sohra area, on the day, for severe precipitation and low visibility,” the officials said.
