Since COVID-19 cases begin to rise across the country, Telangana showed a minimum increase with four active cases, according to the latest data on the National COVID-19 dashboard. The state, which had zero active cases only a few weeks ago, has now begun to send positive samples for genome sequencing as a preventive measure.
Data from Indian SARS-COV-2 Genomics (Insacog) shows that Telangana has submitted three sequencing samples. Kiran Madala, the head of anesthesia at Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad and the COVID-19-19, confirmed that the samples were sent on May 5 and 16 and all three were identified as the variant of the LF.7.9.
The variant LF.7.9 has so far been detected only in India. The preliminary evaluation suggests that this is a slight variant. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) has not yet published specific information or a detailed classification of this option.
Dr. Madala added that a total of 118 samples for sequencing from all over India were sent to 3 June. Among them 58 belonged to the XFG variant, 34 to LF.7.9, 16 to XFJ and three to Jn.1, while seven samples were attributed to other variants.
This step towards the start of sequencing in Telangana is governed by the Minister of Health of Health C. Damodar Raja Narasimha, who asked officials to increase the genomic supervision in the light of the national trend.
Insecog data also shows that the variant of NB.1.8.1, which currently throws itself in Singapore, was in one case detected in the Mahari, Dr.Madala added.
