Three persons have been arrested by the Alwal police for cheating nearly 100 families by promising them 2-BHK government houses and issuing fake allotment letters. Up to 79 fake documents and three mobile phones used in the fraud were seized.
The accused have been identified as Timmiri Gopinath Pushpalatha, 54, a resident of Trimulgherry, her son Timmiri Gopinath Vishal, 21, and Mahender Singh, 45, owner of Radhaswamy Photocopy Center in Trimulgherry. All three were caught on June 24.
According to the police, the accused collected ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh from the victims by falsely claiming that they could secure plots under the government’s 2-BHK housing scheme. Investigators said Pushpalatha was projected as a senior GHMC official capable of facilitating house allotments, leading the victims to believe the claims.
To convince the applicants, the accused supplied forged government allotment certificates, giving the impression that the houses had already been sanctioned. Police said victims waited nearly three years before realizing they had been scammed.
A case was registered at Alwal police station on May 20 based on a complaint lodged by Gogikar Prasad. During the investigation, the police found that Pushpalatha and Vishal played a key role in preparing and distributing the forged certificates, while Mahender Singh helped design and print the fake documents at his copy center.
Officials said the main accused, Jayaraj Gangadharan, along with Nisha Raj, Chintu Raj and a stamp shop in Ranigunj, are absconding. Efforts are underway to trace them.
Police urged the public not to pay money to individuals who claim to be able to secure government benefits, including housing, jobs, land allocations or social security schemes, and advised citizens to verify such claims with the appropriate government agency before making any payments.
