Disclosing the details during a media briefing at the district police office on Monday, District SP Vakul Jindal lauded the CCS and Lalapeta police teams for their swift investigation.
According to police, the robbers — Chillara Suresh (38), a notorious repeat offender from Gorantla in Guntur, and Kaja Nagaveera Bhaskar Rao (24) from Ramalingeswara Nagar in Vijayawada — were involved in a burglary that was reported on November 12 in Sampath Nagar. The complainant, Venkata Appayya Shastri, returned from Tirupati to find his house broken into and 152 grams of gold missing. The Lalapeta police have registered a case.
Investigators tracked the accused using technical surveillance and intelligence on previous offenders. The duo was nabbed in Lalapeta on Monday and subsequently confessed to three more burglaries reported in Lalapeta, Nagarampalem and Pattabhipuram.
The police recovered a total of 227 grams of gold and 182 grams of silver that the accused had stolen. A third suspect, Lanka Rajesh (40) of Sugali Nagar, who bought the stolen jewelery from them, was also arrested.
