
The Medical College police on Friday (May 8) arrested three persons for the alleged kidnapping, assault and robbery of a youth hailing from Mankavu. The accused have been identified as Mohammed Shakkeel, 30, of Kolathara, Ageesh, 31, of Kunnamangalam, and Abhiram, 24, of Beypore.
According to police sources, the incident that led to the arrest of the three took place on April 4 when Vishnu, the complainant, was traveling in his car in Kozhikode city. When he reached Puthiyapalam, three accused whom he knew allegedly intercepted the vehicle and forced open the door. Later, they allegedly snatched his car key and took the vehicle to an apartment near the Kozhikode beach.
Police sources said the accused threatened Vishnu with a knife and robbed him of a mobile phone, a silver ring and a wallet containing ₹10,500. They also allegedly forced him to reveal the Google Pay PIN number on his phone. They later abandoned him near Puthiyapalam, where he was allegedly abducted and fled with his car, police said.
Police officers from the Medical College station said the third accused, Abhiram, was involved in a number of criminal cases registered at various police stations in Kozhikode city. He was earlier booked under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act and lodged in Kannur Central Jail. Mohammed Shakkeel, the first accused, was also involved in various criminal cases related to substance abuse and anti-social activities.
