“Three narrow-body Air India aircraft parked at Terminal 2 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi were damaged on Sunday (June 7, 2026) when they were hit by ground support equipment due to sudden strong winds and rain,” the airport operator said.
All three planes were taken out of service after the collision, the operator said. “Due to sudden inclement weather, the ground equipment belonging to Air India Engineering and IndiGo moved from its position and hit the aircraft parked at Terminal 2,” the operator said.
The private operator also said that Air Traffic Control had not issued any warning (to airport operators or airlines) of any change in weather. Air India declined to comment on the incident.
However, an airline source said that along with three Air India planes, planes of other operators were also affected due to adverse weather conditions. He said that of the three aircraft affected, two would return to service soon, while the third would take a little longer to repair.
