Thomas Tuchel got it right as England overcame Croatia to win their World Cup opener

England opened their World Cup campaign with a 4-2 win over Croatia in a lively Group L encounter. Harry Kane scored twice to put England ahead before Croatia hit back through Martin Baturina and Petar Musa on both occasions.

Thomas Tuchel’s side responded strongly after the break, Jude Bellingham restoring the lead just two minutes into the second half after a burst from midfield. Substitute Marcus Rashford then sealed the win late on after a quick counter-attack.

The result gives England an early advantage in Group L and a valuable three points in their opening game.
