Former Bayern Munich and Germany forward Thomas Muller signed for Major League Soccer Side Vancouver WhiteCaps and ended one of the most turbulent career careers in modern football. A 35 -year -old man, who left the contract at the end of last season, joined Canadian clothing for the rest of the 2025 MLS campaign.
This agreement contains the opportunity to expand Mller’s stay as a designated player for the season 2026 – a status that exempts the salary of the player from counting towards the club’s wages. To secure their services, WhiteCaps have received their rights to discover MLS from FC Cincinnati in exchange for $ 200,000 ($ 149,000) in 2025 General Alocation Money, $ 100,000 ($ 75,000) in 2026 GAM and a $ 100,000 ($ 75,000) in 2026.
Muller’s step is considered to be a signature for WhiteCaps who are currently second in the Western conference, with only one point of San Diego leaders with the remaining ten regular seasons. Unlike many European stars, which have decided on the Marquis of American markets, such as Los Angeles, New York or Miami, Muller chose less passengers – the one that signals ambitions rather than just a swan.
“I look forward to coming to Vancouver to help this team win the championship,” Muller said in a statement released by the club. “I heard great things about the city, but first of all I came to win. I had great interviews with (sports director) Axel Schuster and (head coach) Jesrene Soresen and now I can’t wait to play in front of BC Place fans.”
Muller began his journey with Bayern Munich as a youth player in 2000 and eventually became the face of the club over almost two decades of unprecedented domestic and European success. He made club records of 756 performances, scored 250 goals and registered 268 assists, while collecting 33 main trophies – including 13 Bundesliga titles, six German cups, two Champions League titles, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups.
Muller was internationally limited 131 times for Germany and scored 45 goals. In Brazil he was helpful in their world cup triumph in 2014 and won the Golden Boot at the 2010 tournament in South Africa. His sum of ten goals in the World Cup final ranked him among the best shooters in the history of the competition.
His final performance for Bayern came as a replacement in the defeat of 2-0 for Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals of the World Cup last month-a vigorous curtain call indicating its 756 and the last match in the red.
Muller’s arrival to MLS is also finishing something like a full circle: while Canadian talent Alphonso Davies has moved from Vancouver to Bayern in 2019, Muller is now traveling in the opposite direction, even though in the twilight of his career.
The German striker will officially join WhiteCaps after receiving his international transmission, visa and work permit. While this step undoubtedly promotes the profile of Vancouver before the role of the city as host of the World Cup FIFA 2026, the club officials stressed that this is not a mere signature of publicity.
At the age of 35, Muller’s best years behind him, but his influence on the playground and beyond him – as a leader, the winner and one of the most intelligent football attackers – could only be a marginal vancouver in their efforts for the first MLS Cup.
