Post LinkedIn from Purvi Jain For all the right reasons, it was viral and reminded the Indians that changes, especially when it comes to the safety of women, may happen quietly and more stable than we think.
In his post Jain, who traveled alone on a late night train from Bombai to Surrat, shared a small but powerful experience that deeply assured her feeling of the direction in which India moves.

“Purvi?”, A little control that meant a lot
Around 23 hours, two female police officers entered her section, looked around and asked, “Seat 38 – Purvi?”
Jain for a moment confused and confirmed her identity. What followed was unexpected.
“They stopped, checked if I was comfortable, and asked if I needed any help. Then they gave me the number of help to call if I ever feel dangerous,” she wrote in her post, now thousands of likes and sharing across platforms.
Officers, as she later learned, were checked for it because she was a solo traveler – a small but significant initiative of the safety of Indian railways and RPFs (rail protection forces) to ensure that women feel protected, especially on night trains.

The older couple sitting beside her was still moved. “Their granddaughter often travels alone. Gestures like this feel soothing,” she said.
“One step in a while”
Jain appreciated the transformation he recorded as a frequent traveler, from a faster reservation of tickets and smoother Tatkal verification to experience with Vande Bharat trains.
“We are not perfect and we are definitely not on the same level as developed nations. But moments like this show are real progress, even though it is one step by another,” she thought.
The Internet is responding
Jain’s contribution hit the chord online and many applauded the silent efforts of Indian railways and the enforcement of law.
The user shared a similar experience in traveling in Vande Bharat: “We were on the same train or happened every day? I was just as well checked 2 officers when I traveled from Bombai to Surrat last Saturday.”
