Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court grants bail in murder case
A Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court on Wednesday granted bail to two youths accused of murdering a man outside a bar in Mukkola, Thiruvananthapuram on April 16.
The accused, Achu S. Babu, 24, and Ananthu SS, 18, of Kottukal were remanded in judicial custody for 70 days.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place when the pair, in a drunken state, had an argument with the victim, Suman. The pair allegedly caught the victim on the Kovalam service road and assaulted him repeatedly, leading to his death. The Vizhinjam police arrested them on the same day of the incident.
The court found that the investigation team prepared the scene of the mahazar, recorded witness statements, collected CCTV footage, photographs and scientific evidence, seized mobile phones and clothes worn by both the accused and the deceased, recovered the scooter used by the first accused in the crime and obtained a wound certificate and post-mortem report.
As key evidence had been secured, the court found that the release of the applicants would not adversely affect the investigation.
The court also imposed strict bail conditions, including a surety bond of ₹50,000 with two solvency sureties of the same amount, a condition that they would mark their presence before the investigating officer every Wednesday for the next three months or until the final charge-sheet is filed or until the final charge-sheet is filed, and a strict ban on influencing any person or tampering with evidence. The accused is also not allowed to commit any crimes while out on bail.
